i would like to know how to change this, i sync my documents folder to about 3 pc's at the office, and 2 pc's at home. now at work, it's not such an issue, but when it's syncing to home u can imagine it's a pain, since the dream files are pretty large. i know other things are stored in documents as well, and some other apps now store in all users, which is even more frustrating when dealing with folder redirection. any thoughts on this?

Depends if you are downloading them or simply opening them with the download links. However since some of the file sizes are very large in some cases I would recomend doing it by hand. Download to the desktop and only sync what you really want to send home. Just my two cents on this matter.

well, if i goto wincustomize and get them, i just click open from IE, if i use SDC to get them, i goto the download folder, and double click it. that way, when i'm in the personalize section choosing wallpaper, all my dreams show up. see what i mean? otherwise i would have to manually browse to them each time.
another point is that object dock doesn't always see the backgrounds that aren't in the program files directory, it will show the name in the list, but no preview all white, and applies nothing when u try. granted, this isn't all the time, some times it works, some times it doesn't.
and the other issue is that there is no conformity to this with all the ODNT applications, they store them in all sorts of places, and it totally breaks with folder redirection to a network location by group policy, some of the apps aren't recognizing the system variables. for instance, dreamscapes won't install with folder redirection, even though the error says \\servername\user\documents is the valid path, it says it can't see it.
i really think stardock should built into SDC where app skins are stored, kind of like they let us specify where programs are installed and where shortcuts are created.

You can store them where ever you want. When I download a dream, I download it to the desktop and then move it to my external hard drive. I then open up the desktop folder, where you would assign your wallpaper, to assign the dream as wallpaper.
The first time you will have to browse to the folder you have them stored in and after that it will become your default storage folder, as long as you have a dream running it will always open to that folder.

CarGuy pretty much said it. Whereever the file might be when you apply it the dream gets loaded from that location. Keeping them anywhere else still works.

ok, so basically i just can't double click it, because then it puts that in the default folder in documents. but what about soundpackager and objectdock. object dock really has a problem if the folder isn't in the original path, if i relocate documents, it gets confused.

That is correct Object Dock wants things more orgainzed for it. I recomend keeping image in the set location to keep things running well for you. As to sound packager it is something of the same. In that case through it is like the Cursor XP and FX programs. To launch them from the list within the software it needs to be in the defualt locations.

well, if it wants things more organized, why does it keep it in different locations for different apps? there is no centralized location yet
and, soundpackager, it still moves it to the documents folder, even if i don't double click on it.

wait, nevermind, soundpackaer actually lets u select a package directory, now all ODNT apps need this

I face the same problem... It's a royal pain in the ass having to manually edit the
windows registry
everytime
I install a new (beta or not) version of WB. Two different keys - HKLM and HKCU (not sure if these two are enough!!) - must be modified just to point to WB folder at my D: driver (not the windows one) as I don't have enough space where your installer insists that my
huge
skin collection should be stored; that's truly nonsense and sad...
As a professional software developer I cannot understand why it's so difficult to get user input and use it to solve a very common problem - as can be depicted from the many entries allover stardock forums.
You should really try to solve this so annoying problem; I'm sure the user community would appreciate it very much!

Why not just write the changes to a reg file and merge after an update?

Why not just write the changes to a reg file and merge after an update?
I guess I'm an optimist, so that I'm always thinking stardock's going to fix this annoyance right at the next version... a reg file would be the ultimate surrender signal by me (I guess...)
No, seriously, I can't understand why it'd be difficult giving the user a chance for changing this kind of setting if he or she feels like doing so. Just a small change but with a huge meaning for those who need. Think about that! (it's still time for the big announcement at this month's end...)
